As soon as it starts a fast paced music starts. Straight away establishing it as an action film as the audience will associate fast paced music with fast paced drama, this film 'snatch' is a gangster film although our film will not be a gangster film we liked the title sequence. It established the characters in an effective and easily understood way whilst also establishing the beginning of the film making it a very effective opening scene. It shows what looks to be like a gang or group of men working together to steal some goods/money. You can tell the 'evil' intent to steal by the expressions shown on the actor’s faces its shows greed and a sort of lust for money. This is good because is successful establishes the film is going to be an action packed thriller; we will be trying to archive a similar outcome.
At the very start the camera shows 2 men in medium close up, taking off 'costumes' this gives the viewer a sense of mystery and fills them with intreeg. The 2 men are inside a van giving the impression that they are 'on the move' and reveals to the audience that what they have just done must have only been moments ago. The camera then zooms out to show that not only 2 men but 4 are together in the van, this is helpful because it gradually shows what is going on to the audience rather than giving the audience the whole picture in one go which would probably confuse the viewer. The camera then Pans Left to show a character of dominance and zooms in on them holding a diamond immediate giving the impression the diamond is stolen.
The editing technique that follows when the whole screen rotates around the diamond in the middle, plus the title appearing is a very effective way to cut to the next scene, it helps give this film uniqueness and also draws the interest of the audience, the way in which the camera then zooms out quickly to reveal a man looking though a magnifying glass at a diamond is a very effective way to establish this character and move to the next scene, this man is stereotypically like an architect he has a smart casual look wearing a jacket and a shirt partly unbuttoned plus his posture whilst holding the diamond the fact that he looks older due to his hair and must ash colour gives the audience the impression he is an elderly man who is wise to things like if a diamond is real of fake. The way he then smiles shows he is pleased he also has a greedy look about him. It is very effective the way his character is then established in the title. It is a clear representation of the character plus their name in a short space of time helping to quickly and effectively establish the character.
The way that the character then puts the Diamond into a safe as the camera pans also most along the side of the safe, a very good editing effect showing clearly what is happening inside the safe, and the way that a wipe brings on the next scene where another man goes into his safe is very effective in efficiently and quickly moving onto the next scene without having to go right through the process of re-establishing the scene, the fact that it is like a continuation of the last scene prepares the audience for a similar outcome.
The next part shows Sol a character that looks to be in an office setting, he is smoking a cigar wearing jewellery and also wear a jacket over a loosely buttoned shirt giving him a gangster stereotype, the camera looks down on him from a high angle giving his character a position of inferiority.
Again similarly to the other cuts, it is from one scene to the other in this case when the money is thrown the camera almost 'follows it to the next scene' in the next scene a man is shown who is filmed from a high angle, however there are 2 men in the shot and one is lower down giving the man on the right a position of authority over the other but still a position of inferiority in the scheme of things, what you would expect with a gangster movie. The character once again is stereotypically a gangster type with a hat on, lots of jewellery and an unbuttoned shirt with a waste coat.
Throughout this film the editing technique of how it cuts is very effective; again we see the same thing as the camera 'follows' one object 'from one scene to another'. Next we see a shady character vinny, who is pulling a very smug greedy smile as he is holding some jewellery.
next we see an upside down close up of some poker chips, establishing that a game of poker is taking place the camera flips from upside down to the right way up from a low angle to reveal the character wearing shades and again having the jacket and loosely buttoned shirt stereotype but also showing him as having more dominance in this scene. there is a close up on the cards he is holding, showing that he is winning this game, but also helping establish the character name, as he is called 4 fingers and as the camera zooms in on the cards it reveals this.
next we see another man playing cards however he is in a much 'poorer' position as he is playing then in a back yard outside the camera also reveals him as someone who is less dominates as it looks down on him from a high angle, once again we see the loosely buttoned shirt stereotype. Next we see the character George boxing he looks like a stereotypical boxer with a red hoody and as he is punching the boxing bag he facial expression shows him gritting his teeth. The camera pans to the left revealing Tommy as someone of inferiority as the camera looks down on him.
the screen wipes using the boxing bag so we see a man dragging another man into a car and about to close the boot, this character has the same stereotype of loosely buttoned shirt with a waste coat, he is clearly in a position of authority over the man in the car because firstly when the scene is established he is overpowering him, secondly the camera angle looks almost directly up at him revealing him to be in authority.
Next we see a man open a 'trap door' in the floor, which cuts to a close up on a shot gun in the fore ground and in the background his character in medium shot. He also closes the trap door then it cuts to the next scene, where Doug is shown, the camera is looking up at him from a lower angle revealing him to be in authority, unlike the others his stereotype is different, he is wearing a shirt and a tie as well as having glasses he is also fat this shows that he is a planner and that he does not do physical work his movements and expression also shows he is in authority he looks to be questioning someone, which someone who is inferior would not do.
Next we see someone probably in a pub; with 2 'henchmen' holding a victim down once again he is filmed from a low angle and is a gangster stereotype. The opening sequence finished how it started with the diamond turning in the centre of the screen.
There is a close up of the man putting the diamond in his suitcase so the audience knows what’s happened to it. The dialogue between the 2 men in the van begins, we can tell they are moving in the van because the people are rocking from side to side also in the background there is the sound effect of moving vichles. When the man asks for the gun we clearly see him empty it, and the expression on the other mans face is a smile. The dialogue ends with the man passing the number across on the piece of paper and finally the way that when the man spins the gun, the camera pans quickly is very effective.
